THROUGH MY EYES: Ghana

Happy New Year To All & Welcome to The Medical Files!
A secret blog to document the lifestyle behind it all.
2023 was again the best but also the most difficult year of my life. Ending in a whirlwind of whatever the fuck, personally and as a society. I found myself longing for some grounding closure going into the next chapter.
GHANA WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!

This trip hands down changed my life.
And I wasn’t even going to go.
My first trip back to the Motherland as an adult all planned within a week. After missing my chance to go to Nigeria, I was in deep contemplation of if I should find a way to still make it out to there in someway. Being honest, I felt like I couldn't let another year go by traveling to all these places and not the land of my people. The Day after Christmas & Four days to departure I booked the flight and began to pack. A one way ticket turned into two weeks of magic...

I love that feeling of initially landing. It's like a huge breathe of ice cold culture, so sharp it kinda chokes you up. Like you can't believe what you're seeing. Tokyo also gives me that feeling but this is different. Everyone looks like me.
*Am I the only one that still claps for the Pilot when they land the plane?*

"Detty December" has truly lived up to its name and now will be a reoccurring vessel in my heart.
At first I didn't fully understand it cause Africans literally always go home in December. But now it feels as if the rest of the diaspora has also joined during the same season, catalyzing tourism during this time immensely. Young people from the entire globe collectively gathering and enjoying daily, bouncing from one country to the next exploring Africa. So many embarking on this collective journey of African culture and self discovery. Growing up, I could never imagine something like this but honestly it's beautiful to see.

When they said you will party to the sun up, PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!

But like I said this is also a time when many Africans return to their native land as well so culture is literally bursting through the city during end of year season. Although Accra may not sleep its important for you to attempt to balance yours during this trip so you also don't miss out on the life of the city during the day.

This trip was just another reminder of where we come from. A reconnection to my roots as a fully functioning autonomous adult. A Grown Ass African Man.
And I'm really proud I took the leap of faith to just get up and book that flight.
The spontaneity of every moment. My bag not landing with me and wearing what I had but not caring cause your really in Ghana. All the captured photographs. Helping Holly push his new Ghanian Baby Tee. Meeting so many like minded young people and getting to connect with them across the globe. Getting some good topical samples. Shopping at Free The Youth. Leaving Polo Beach Club at 9AM. Riding horses on the beach. Climbing Black Star Square. Eating at Mama Africa or breakfast at B2B.
A time was had in Ghana & I'm missing it already.
